It’s been rough for senior citizens following the devastating impact of Hurricane Sandy. Many frail and vulnerable seniors depend upon the vital services of EAC’s Meals on Wheels program. The unprecedented size of the storm severely impacted delivery of life sustaining meals throughout Nassau County. EAC is very proud that we were one of only two agencies that delivered meals during this very difficult time.
When disaster strikes, many seniors are cut off from news broadcasts and don’t know where to turn for help. EAC is committed to delivering food and information to homebound seniors who are affected by the storm. According to Regional Director for Senior & Nutrition Services, Carol O’Neill, telephone calls and home visits were made to every senior who receives meals. Thanks to the dedication of EAC staff and volunteers, we rose to the challenge of helping senior citizens cope with this disaster. But more help is needed.
In order to continue with our efforts to assist homebound seniors, EAC’s Meals on Wheels Program is in desperate need of donations that can be used to offset the cost of fuel for our vans and to purchase supplies such as blankets and flashlights to be distributed to the frail elderly who are still without power. The frigid temperatures are especially dangerous for frail older seniors who suffer from chronic diseases such as Diabetes, stroke and heart disease. Please give generously!
