We are compiling the results from the 2013 Homeless Count! The count was conducted on Wednesday, January 23, 2013.
Each January, the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless coordinates point-in-time counts of sheltered and unsheltered persons in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. The Nassau County count was conducted on January 24, 2012, and the Suffolk County count was conducted on January 26, 2012. Sheltered count numbers include individuals and families who were in emergency shelters and transitional housing for homeless persons on the night of the count. Unsheltered count numbers include "unsheltered" individuals and families who volunteer enumerators interviewed on the night of the count. Unsheltered numbers do not include those who were doubled- or tripled-up, living in substandard conditions, or facing eviction.

The numbers listed below include individuals and families who were in emergency shelters and transitional housing for homeless persons during previous years' counts. They also include "unsheltered" homeless persons, based upon the number of unsheltered homeless persons our enumerators were able to interview and count as homeless on the day of the count - and we know many were not found that day. The numbers do not include those who were doubled or tripled up, living in substandard conditions, or facing eviction.
