United Way Dress Down Day

Monday, June 28th, 2010

On Monday, June 21 the Karma411 team participated in United Way’s first ever LIVE UNITED Dress Down Day!

This campaign was created not only to raise money, but to inspire companies to celebrate the commencement of summer by going casual at work in LIVE UNITED T-shirts. In exchange for a $10 donation, which includes a T-shirt, a company can show their support for United Way’s efforts to advance our communities in the areas of education, income and health.

To show our support for United Way we created individual pages, as well as a Karma411 team page in the effort to raise money for this great cause. On June 21 all of us showed our team spirit by wearing our LIVE UNITED shirts to work as well as outside of the office to advocate and show support!

AFPLI Breakfast

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

On Tuesday, June 22 the Karma411 team was pleased to sponsor the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) East End Meeting for their Long Island chapter, held at the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County.

At this professional education meeting, Brian and I learned about the basics of planned giving presented by James E. Meyer, a partner at Grecco Planning Group, Inc. His presentation – peppered with comical anecdotes from his past experiences – was centered around the first steps in building a planned giving program, how to turn a special event into an opportunity and how to make an elevator pitch.

Learn Social Media Best Practices

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010
On Friday, June 18, Karma411 participated in the New Jersey Social Media Conference in Somerset, NJ.

The day opened with a presentation by David Mathison, author of Be The Media, who spoke about his ideas on how to effectively employ social media to market a brand (and be successful at it!). He also did a great job of explaining the social media space and where it is headed.

Up next was the featured speaker of the day, Alan Levy, CEO of Blog Talk Radio. Alan spoke about how he started out with social media by creating a blog without knowing a stitch about it, and how he was able to turn it into an extremely well-known blog radio show. He also made sure to let the audience know that anyone has the capability of creating and producing their own show- just like he did!  If you’d like to learn more about starting your own talk radio show online, go to BlogTalkRadio.com.

During lunch Gary Vaynerchuk, author of Crush It, gave a video presentation discussing his thoughts on social media. He shared his views on old media, and how it is not dead, but rather a stepping-off point into new media.  He also emphasized the ability of new media to drive down the price of old media; so it might make sense to put up a billboard one week instead of writing a blog.

At the end of the event our very own Jules Strachman had the opportunity to speak on a panel for new social media users. He did an excellent job of presenting and explaining the products Karma411 offers, as well as discussing how the company has implemented social media to expand its networks.  If you are not familiar with the social networking tools Karma411 offers nonprofit organizations, contact us to schedule a demo!

A big thank you to Eva Abreu, of  NJ Social Media, for running the conference!  It was very well put together and a truly educational experience.

NYC Fundraising Day

Friday, June 18th, 2010

June continues to be a very busy (and exciting) month for Karma411! On June 11 we had the opportunity to both sponsor and share an exhibit booth at Fundraising Day in New York City, held by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP). A number of us, including Jules, Eric, Brian and John were all very excited to have the opportunity to participate in this top-notch event.

The team shared a booth with one of our partners, the Hope Process. The partnership, called the Hope Process Connect, is a program that provides nonprofits with a portfolio of recurring donations. Learn more about un-traditional forms of fundraising here.

The Keynote Speaker for this event was Geoffrey Canada of Harlem Children’s Zone. In his time with the Harlem Children’s Zone, Inc., he has become nationally recognized as a passionate educator who has helped many children and families in Harlem.

At the end of the conference, Karma411 was pleased to give away an iPad to one of the guests. Congratulations to our lucky winner!

The team was obliged to have met so many enthusiastic attendees at the event, and look forward to following up with those who were interested in Karma411.

This week, Karma411 is proud to unveil it’s newest and most innovative product: The Karma411 Microsite!
